Our Features

American Indian Community Center

A young man came to Spokane from South Dakota for legal issues and substance abuse treatment. After completing his treatment, he wished to return home to his family. With only the clothes on his back, AICC and the Zumiez foundation provided him with a winter coat, gloves, hoodie, hat, blanket, and Bombas socks. AICC also worked with Catholic Charities to secure a Greyhound ticket for his journey home. This collaboration highlights the incredible impact our community can achieve when we come together! -American Indian Community Center

YWCA

"I wanted to personally thank the YWCA for representing me in court. It was a blessing when they approached me, as I felt lost and scared, unable to afford a lawyer with a newborn. Their professionalism and preparedness were evident throughout the entire process, culminating in the final hearing. They worked tirelessly to justify my protection order, speaking for me when I couldn't find the words. They helped me find the strength to speak up. I'm truly grateful for their advocacy for both my baby and me. The YWCA's work ethic, intelligence, kindness, and strength are changing lives, and I hope they know that!"- YWCA Client

Communities in Schools

I have a student who missed about 60 days of school last year. This year, we started an attendance sticker chart to help him earn prizes. He eagerly comes to my office every morning to put his sticker on the chart, and I walk him to class. He has only missed one day this year and is determined to maintain his good attendance. - Communities in Schools

Spokane Fatherhood Initiative

My name is Del, a proud father of two. Raised in Spokane, I faced homelessness and addiction for over a decade. A tragic loss and the support of loved ones, along with guidance from SpoFI, a men's group founded by my partner's father, helped me overcome my addiction. Today, I'm over 400 days clean and have rebuilt my life. SpoFI provided the fellowship and support I needed to become a better father and person. My children now have an involved dad, and I cherish the healthier co-parenting relationship with their mother. SpoFI has given me lifelong friendships and the tools to be the best version of myself. I'm forever grateful for its profound impact on our lives. -Spokane Fatherhood Initiative Client

The Importance of Unrestricted Funds

Unrestricted funds are particularly crucial for nonprofits, offering the flexibility to allocate resources where they are needed most. Unlike restricted funds, which are earmarked for specific purposes, unrestricted funds allow organizations to cover operational costs, invest in capacity building, and respond swiftly to emerging challenges. This financial agility is essential for maintaining program effectiveness and sustainability. By having the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, nonprofits can ensure that their programs remain effective and can continue to meet the community's evolving needs.

United Way of Spokane County's Commitment

United Way of Spokane County recognizes the importance of such funding and is committed to mentoring, supporting, and advocating for our 29 nonprofit agencies. Through our efforts, we help these organizations navigate obstacles, celebrate their successes, and ensure accountability. By fostering strong partnerships and safeguarding financial contributions, United Way of Spokane County enhances the overall impact of our collective efforts, building a stronger, more resilient community for everyone.
